How to use JargsLedger on WhatsApp
Everything the website can do, from a chat. Link your number once, then this is all you need.
1. Link your number
On the website, open your account menu (top right) → Connect a channel → WhatsApp → Generate link. Tap it, WhatsApp opens with a message already typed out, and you just hit Send. That’s it, your number is now linked to your account.
Sending sales figures over a chat app can feel different from a website - fair concern. Your data is private and stays yours: we never sell it, and we don’t use your sales entries to train AI. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
2. Log a sale
Just type or send a voice note the way you’d tell a friend, any order, with or without the price. No command needed.
- “Sold 10 eggs today for 5 each”
- “Two haircuts this afternoon, 20 each”
- “Sold 4 shirts, not sure the price” (fills in from your inventory if you’ve set one up)
Mention several sales in one message and each one logs separately. If something’s unclear, JargsLedger asks a quick follow-up instead of guessing.
3. Manage inventory
Add or restock items by describing what you bought, the same natural way as logging a sale:
/addstock 50 bags of rice for 1000 total, selling each for 30
Restocking something you already have adds to what’s on hand rather than replacing it. Once an item is in your inventory, logging a sale for it (on WhatsApp or the website) automatically fills in the price if you don’t state one, and reduces the stock count.
See what you currently have with /inventory. For editing or deleting individual items, use the website’s Inventory page.
4. Log an expense
Business costs that aren’t inventory purchases - rent, transport, wages, fuel - go here instead of /addstock:
/expense 5000 on fuel for the generator
Mention more than one in a message and each logs separately. See it all from the website’s Expenses page.
5. Your data format
Every sale always tracks item, quantity, price, and total. If your business needs more, like a customer name for a tailor or a batch number for a pharmacy, add your own fields:
- /businesstype shows a list of suggested formats by business type; reply with a number to preview one, then add apply to use it.
- /customfields shows what you’re currently tracking.
Adding or editing fields yourself, one at a time, is done from the website’s Data format menu.
6. Review and fix
A sale JargsLedger couldn’t fully understand waits for you instead of being dropped. /pending lists anything that still needs input, each with a short id.
/fix <id> <answer> finishes one right in the chat, e.g. /fix 607 10 at 5 each.
7. Track who owes you
Mention a sale was on credit and who it’s for, and JargsLedger tracks it as a debt instead of collected cash: “Sold 4 bags of rice, two were cash and Ngozi took two on credit.”
/debtors lists everyone who currently owes you and how much. Recording a payment as it comes in is done from the website’s Debtors page.
8. Get a statement
/statement sends a PDF for the last 30 days. Add a period for anything else:
- /statement 3 months
- /statement all
- /statement 2026-01-01 2026-03-31
9. Disconnect
/unlink disconnects this number. Nothing you’ve already logged is deleted, and you can reconnect anytime from the website.
